Farm 2 was purchased in 1998 and has increased its capacity to 1,200 cows from 600 cows.
Several additions have been made to this facility including an overhaul of the twin, double 10, herringbone parlors.
Two new 7,000 gallon bulk tanks were added as well as a new 600 cow barn, new feed bunks and feeding center, and the addition of a covered management rail.

The summer of 2006 brought about a much needed addition to Farm 2 in the way of a
new prefresh / special needs barn.
This new barn is a combination of many parts including freestalls for prefresh cows, many calving pens, a lock up pen directly off the parlor, a heated operating room, a heated calf room, a drug room, a new break room, a new office and new bathrooms.
Having cows freshen this close to the parlor allows for the special attention needed during this critical stage of lactation.
When this barn was added some of the old buildings seen in the skyview picture above were eliminated, making the overall appearance of Farm 2 much more appealing.
A new aerial picture will be available this summer.

The management rail is used for breeding and bST injections as cows return to the main milk cow barn.
The rail is 200' long and can hold 35 cows at a time.
An office just off the rail provides a place where herdsmen can access a computer to check cow records without having to go all the way down to the parlor area.

The 75,000 square feet of new bunks were
added to provide adequate storage for the 20,000 tons of forage fed every year.

A combination of commodity bays and upright grain bins provides excellent flexibility to the grain management schedule.
Each bin holds 28 tons and has a flail chain unloaders to prevent feed from hanging up in them. 8" augers make loading the feed wagon quick, efficient and accurate.
Shrink is very low on grains because of the upright bins and feeding accuracy is easier to control with an auger on a grain bin than with a bucket on a pay loader.

The new 600 cow, 6 row freestall uses sawdust bedded mattress stalls with a pass through design.
Having 14' sidewalls on a barn that is already set up on a hill provides excellent ventilation for cows.

In the new office the herdsmen access a computer to check cow records on 'Dairy Comp 305'.
A wireless network allows for 'Dairy Comp 305' to be viewed and edited from both offices because what was the old herdsman's office is now the 2nd office.
The new office is part of the new prefresh barn and is centrally located for easy access to all main activity.
In the main office a 2nd PC functions as a high tech surveillance system. The parlors, bulk tanks, break room and barns are monitored 24 hours a day and are logged on the computer's hard drive @ 30 frames per second.
Data is used for security as well as employee training and performance reviews.
